Harmonia is the latest wildly innovative virtual instrument from Cherry Audio, designed to easily create rich, evolving polyphonic tones through its intuitive visual interface.
The magic behind Harmonia lies in its two sample-based oscillators. Using techniques similar to those found in additive synthesis, each Harmonia oscillator can simultaneously produce up to eight pitches, individually tuned to a harmonic series or semitones. The volume for each pitch harmonic can be fixed or dynamic, and Harmonia’s unique interpolated harmonic scanning enables dramatic sweeps and melodious sequences through a single modulatable slider.
Harmonia derives its distinctive organic sound from hundreds of sampled waveforms recorded from various synthesizers, traditional instruments and voices, colorful “lo-fi” sounds, and more. User samples can be imported, further expanding Harmonia’s tonal palette. Producers can effortlessly create unique morphed and sequencer-like tones by varying the combinations of waveform selection and harmonic presets.
Harmonia reaches new heights by providing four syncable polyphonic LFOs, an expansive stereo multimode filter, click-and-drag envelopes, and a massive mod matrix with eight slots for dozens of sources and destinations. Harmonia includes support for aftertouch, flexible MIDI mapping, and a collection of over 350 breathtaking, professionally designed presets. Harmonia also has 17 studio-quality effects such as distortion, chorus, phaser, echoes, reverbs, and more - all fully modulatable through the matrix.
In this tutorial video, Harmonia designer Mitchell Sigman details the unique oscillators at heart of the instrument. James is Director of Sound Design, responsible for preset programming and curation at Cherry Audio. He is a long-established sound designer and musician based in the San Francisco Bay Area who has worked with Dave Smith Instruments/Sequential, Pioneer DJ, Apple, and Han Zimmer’s Remote Control.
Katharine Fountain aka FOUNTAINS is an artist, producer, and sound designer based in Nova Scotia, Canada. Katharine graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2019. In addition to freelance sound design work, Katharine also releases music under her self-produced solo electronic pop project, FOUNTAINS.

Julie Kathryn (I AM SNOW ANGEL) is a recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and sound designer. She has developed a signature dreampop aesthetic as I AM SNOW ANGEL. She regularly designs MIDI presets for Ableton Live and has created audio sound packs for Splice and BandLab.
James is a freelance sound designer and musician based in the UK, and creates third-party preset packs as JD Soundsets. He draws inspiration and influence from Tangerine Dream and 80s film scores, and has designed sounds for Modal and IK Multimedia.
